Terms of Use
This document is published in English only. If you would like it explained in your language, write to support@monesto.me and we will answer in yours.
These terms cover your use of Monesto — the mobile apps, the Telegram bot and this website. Using Monesto means you accept them. If you do not, the app has a delete-account button and you owe us nothing.
What Monesto is, and what it is not
Monesto records what you and the people you share costs with have spent, and works out who owes whom. It is a record-keeping tool.
It is not a bank, a payment service, a money transmitter, an accountant or a source of financial or tax advice. It does not hold your money and it does not move money between people. A balance shown in Monesto is a summary of what the people in a group have entered — it is a statement about your records, not a legally enforceable debt, and settling up happens between you, outside the app.
Your account
You need an account, and you get one by signing in with Apple or with Google. Keep that sign-in to yourself: anything done through your account is treated as done by you. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has got into it.
You must be at least 16 years old to use Monesto.
Using it reasonably
Do not use Monesto to:
- break the law, or help anyone else to;
- get into an account, group or record that is not yours;
- disrupt the service, or work around its limits and quotas;
- scrape it, resell access to it, or re-badge it as your own;
- upload anything unlawful, or anyone else’s personal data that you have no right to share.
If you do these things we may suspend or close your account. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will warn you first.
Subscriptions and renewals
Monesto has a free tier. Monesto Premium is a paid subscription, and:
- it is billed through the store you bought it from — the Apple App Store, or Telegram Stars — and never directly by us;
- it renews automatically at the price and interval shown when you bought it, until you cancel;
- your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours of the current period ending;
- to stop it, cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends. Cancelling later takes effect at the following renewal, not this one;
- on the App Store, manage or cancel it in Settings → your name → Subscriptions on your device. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription;
- any free trial ends the moment you buy a subscription, and unused trial time is not refunded or carried over;
- refunds are the store’s to give, under their policy. We cannot issue one on Apple’s behalf, though we will help you ask.
We may change what Premium costs or what it includes. If we do, we will tell you before it affects a renewal, and the change never applies to a period you have already paid for.
What you write stays yours
Your expenses, groups and notes belong to you. You give us only the permission we need to run the service — to store your entries, show them back to you, and show shared entries to the other members of that group. We claim nothing else, and we do not use your content to train anything or to advertise to you.
Everything else — the apps, the name, the design — belongs to us.
Availability
We work to keep Monesto running, but we do not promise it will be available without interruption or free of defects. We may change features, and we may retire them. If we retire something you rely on, we will give you reasonable notice and a way to get your data out.
Monesto is provided as is. To the extent the law allows, we exclude the implied warranties — and nothing here limits liability for death, personal injury, or fraud, because that cannot be excluded.
Limits on what we owe you
Check your figures before you act on them. Monesto shows what was entered, and an entry can be wrong, missing or duplicated. We are not liable for a decision you took on the strength of a figure in the app, for a disagreement with someone you share costs with, or for data lost where you had a reasonable opportunity to keep your own copy.
To the extent the law allows, our total liability to you for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before it arose — which, if you use the free tier, is nothing. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for lost profits.
If you are a consumer, you keep every right your local law gives you. Nothing above takes away a right that cannot be signed away.
Ending it
You can stop at any time: Settings → Delete account. We may close an account that breaks these terms, or if we stop offering the service — in which case we will give notice and refund any unused paid period we billed for.
Changes to these terms
We may update this page. If a change matters to you we will say so in the app before it takes effect. Carrying on using Monesto after that means you accept the new version.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Georgia, and the courts of Tbilisi, Georgia have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory law of the country you live in.
Who operates Monesto
Monesto is operated by Anton Bogatikov, an individual trader based in Tbilisi, Georgia. That is the party these terms are an agreement with, and the party the governing-law clause above refers to.
